Soldier In Italy 10th Mtn Division Poster
This poster is based on an original painting by the late Jacques Parker, who was a member of America's first ski-mountain troops, the elite and legendary 10th Mountain Division. During World War II, Parker chronicled the saga of the 10th in combat with drawings and paintings that were published in the 10th's own newspaper, The Blizzard. He drew this illustration showing the famous image of the ski trooper while serving in Italy during the winter of 1943. This original was drawn in pencil on an 8 x 10 inch pad which he sometimes carried in his rucksack when pads of paper were available
Additionally, Jacques was such a great artist that he chronicled the War he was experiencing each day on any scrap of paper or napkin that he could find. This poster was a compilation of some of his hand draw images, that he later put together and added color to the images after the war. Many of his other drawings now hang in the University of Denver CO Library, as he was able to frame each piece before he passed. Each drawing also has his writing about the history of what was going on when he drew it during the war. These drawing and his writings are used to tell his story of the War and the time following. Also check out Jacques' drawings in the book link below.
