Friedl Pfeifer on Aspen Mountain, circa 1949. This talented Austrian was a member of the elite 10th Mt. Division ski troops. He began to teach skiing in Sun Valley in 1936, and in time ran their ski school. In 1946, he was among the three experts that ran Aspen's new ski school. Friedl was a central figure in starting both the Aspen and Buttermilk mountain ski areas.
