This image is also available in an 11 x 14 inch Photo entitled: Skiing History Week 2016 in Aspen CO Photo.

Aspen hosted the annual Skiing History Week in April of 2016. This was a combined effort of the US Ski & Snowboard Hall of Fame and the International Skiing History Association (ISHA). The Events included five Jerry Awards for outstanding contributions to Skiing History, an example was the award for the Skiing Films by Legendary Dick Durrance Sr. (Check out Dick's photographic contributions at Dick Durrance Photos.)

Ten ISHA Awards were given for excellence in writing about all aspects of ski history; The Oslo Norway Museum Curator, Karen Berg, received an ISHA Life-time Achievement Award; plus Aspen's own Greg Lewis got an ISHA Life-time Achievement Award for his contributions to the skiing industry through Broadcasting.

The US Ski and Snowboard Hall of Fame was on Saturday and 7 New Members were inducted at the Banquet held at the St. Regis Hotel in Aspen. This year's class of Inductees to the Hall of Fame included:
  • Genia Fuller, a 3 time World Freestyle Champion; (Check out Genia's Photos and Posters at Genia Fuller Photos & Posters.)
  • David Ingemie, 4 decades of be a powerful force behind the SIA (Snowsports Industries of America);
  • Harry Kaiser, Media Mogul as President & Publisher, for over 35 years, of Skiing Magazine;
  • Chris Klug, Aspen's own, from liver transplant to 2002 Olympic Medalist in Snowboarding;
  • Jim Martinson, founding father of Adaptive Skiing as a Purple Heart double amputee, renowned inventor of Mono Skis, dominated US Paralympics & 1992 Gold Medalist in Adaptive Skiing;
  • Bob Salerno, Freestyle Skiing icon, won many Championships, appeared in many ads including McDonald's, Bogner & Right Guard;
  • The Late Edgar Stern, brought the US Ski Team to Park City UT, is the former owner of Park City Mountain Resort and founder of the Deer Valley Resort.

Of course, skiing the 4 local ski areas of Aspen - Snowmass was a top priority for most attendees. Gratefully, the snow conditions were excellent throughout the week, which was a wonderful April surprise. On Sunday there was a memorial on Aspen's Ruthie's Run - also known as America's Downhill Course, honoring the recent passing of Bill Johnson, a former Olympic Gold Medalist in Downhill Skiing.
