1942 Lund 10th Mountain Division Traditional Snowshoes, Size 10" x 58"

Chairlift 1 opened on Aspen Mountain in January, 1947, and is one of the top three classic ski lifts of North America. The lift was also known as 'the longest ski lift in the world,' as advertised on a big banner during the opening ceremonies. It had a single seat, with a blanket that folded over the rider when they closed the sissy bar. The lift has been upgraded but is still located in essentially the same location, and now known as Lift 1A. Parts of the original historic lift remain standing just below the newer lift.

Description

Northland Ski Company manufactured these Lund snowshoes during WWII in St. Paul, MN for the 10th Mountain Division Ski Troops. Athabascan-style snowshoes like these were used by the 10th Mtn. Div. ski troopers for carrying heavy loads through the snow of the European Alps. These are a classic example of WWII military snowshoes that would look lovely on the wall a ski lodge, not to mention they make for an awesome collectible.
