Description

These snowshoes, made in the 1940s in Camden, New York by Bentley Wilson for the famed 10th Mountain Division during WWII, were made for the US troops to travel long distances in the snow. The 10th Mtn. soldiers would wear a special type of warm boot called a 'mukluk' and then place some leather in-between their boot and the 'racket' of the snowshoe to prevent wear on both their boots and snowshoes.

In December of 1947, Bentley Wilson registered a trademark to start manufacturing tennis and badminton rackets. As they were already making the 'rackets' for the snowshoes during WWII, this became their profitable post war product.

This is an outstanding pair of old wooden snowshoes, ideal for decorating or collecting.

Size - 10 x 58 inches.
