1900's Strand Antique Touring Skis

Martin Strand started making skis in his home Minneapolis Minnesota in 1896 while working as a surveyor and insurance salesman. Martin partnered with business associate Frederick Youngquist in 1904 and they formed the Strand-Youngquist Manufacturing Company where they made skis, boat oars, and toboggans. Their business partnership dissolved in about 1907, but Strand continued to make skis. This Norwegian telemark style of ski was really popular in the early days of the sport. In 1910 after two fires he moved his operations to New Richmond Wisconsin. Strand filled for bankruptcy in 1948.

This is a really nice example of the early telemark style of skis and are in great condition for their age. These skis have a mortise but have been retrofitted with a newer binding. These give a new meaning to long boards.
