In 1976, the United States celebrated its Bicentennial, and for the celebration an American effort was made over the course of the year for climbers to summit Everest. This poster, an original 1977 print, is a photograph taken by climber Gerry Roach showing two other climbers, Sherpa Ang Phurba and Hans Bruyntjes, at 18,000 feet at the Khumbu Icefall above base camp. The Icefall is a notoriously treacherous section of the climb. The peak seen in front of the climbers is Pumori, a mountain just eight kilometers from Everest, and from Everest in the morning light it looks truly magnificent. Size: 21 x 29 inches.
