Andrea Lawrence Wins Two Gold Medals in 1952 Vintage Ski Photo

She also still holds the title of being the ONLY American woman to have two Gold Medals for Alpine Skiing in a single Olympic Game. These games opened at Norefjell, Norway on Feb. 14, 1952. The Games are commonly thought of as the Oslo Olympics. Mrs. Lawrence was 19 years old at this time. She won the Woman's Giant Slalom Championship by streaking down the course in 2 minutes and 6.8 seconds, to beat 44 competitors. She is shown here in a victorious pre-Olympic slalom race at Bad Gastein, Austria a month before the Olympics.
