Andrea is giving it all that she's got, with the look of pure determination as she races in the National Championship in North Conway NH. This is in March of 1955, Andy is two months pregnant with her third child Deirdre, 'Didi", who was born in October, 1955.  About 6 weeks later she was off to Europe to practice with the US Women's Olympic Ski Team in preparation for the 1956 Winter Olympics in Cortina Italy. At this point Andrea Mead Lawrence had already skied in Switzerland, in the 1948 St. Moritz Winter Olympics (as a 15 year old). She had also skied in the 1952 Oslo Norway Winter Olympics, where she won two Gold Medals in Women's Alpine Skiing. She is still the only woman to win two Gold Medals in Alpine skiing at the Olympics!

Truly Andy is one of a kind in being a both a Champion skier and then in the years to come she transferred this determined energy, to be a Champion of caring for the environment and the nature of her beloved Sierra Mountain area. Her third child Didi also became an amazing skier and is recognized as one of the top ski instructors in the United States.
